Music Minute: G-Eazy

Hip Hop and Rap are definitely my favorite genres of music. I'm obsessed with finding new artists to listen to and enjoy, and to share with my friends! One rapper in particular has caught my eye as of late.

I'm sure many of you have already heard of G-Eazy, and I myself have been following him for a couple of years now. However, it wasn't until his most recent album, When It's Dark Out, that I really got hooked. I got my first taste of his new album this year at Austin City Limits Music Festival, before the record was actaully released. The rapper teased his album during his set at the festival, and gave his fans a preview of the songs "You Got Me" and "Random", both of which I thought were total hits.

G-Eazy, whose real name is Gerald Earl Gillum, grew up in the Bay Area in California, around Oakland. In 2012, he released his first independent album, Must Be Nice, which he followed up with the album These Things Happen soon after. This year, the young artist dropped When It's Dark Out, which I think to be his best album yet. This album is a bit more heavy than his past works, delving into serious events from his life like his battle with depression in the song "Sad Boy" and his mother leaving his father for a woman in the track "Everything Will Be Okay" featuring the up and coming soulful singer Kehlani. The album is full of amazing features from incredible artists like Marc E. Bassy in "Some Kind of Drug", Big Sean in "One of Them", and the talented yet controversial Chris Brown in "Drifting".
